Jake Greenwood Photography

As an amateur photographer, the images on this site are a reflection of my learning and developing my photographic voice. A large collection of images is available as an insight into my workings and my hopeful evolution over time. Below are a few of my favourites.

chasm
Traversing a glacier in South East Iceland.
The contrasting mood of the sky, the deep blue of the ancient ice, and the sensuous abstract form made this one of my favourite images from our Icelandic Winter adventure

rhyolite
Expedition from Landmannalaugar, Central Iceland
A fleeting image captured as we hiked along a gravely monochrome ridge surrounded by some of the most colourful surreal landscape you can imagine. The contrast of the two halfs of the image is what attracts me
Compression
Palace and Harem, Istanbul
The two dimensional result of the framing and focal length is what I love about this image. Trying to find a different viewpoint of a famous tourist attraction is a fun challenge
HOME
Hiking the Rock structures of Cappadocia, Turkiye
trying to give space for the rock house to breathE.  I like the sense of scale and isolation of the rock, with the modern structures in the right side of the frame
Crop
Trekking the mountains of Northern Vietnam
The sweeping curve is what makes it for me. The placement of the person isn't perfect but gives a good sense of depth and i like the almost eyeball shaped oval curves in the centre of the frame
SILVERBACK
Eryri Hiking, Wales
One thing pulled me into this scene. The moss covered fallen trees in the left of the frame. The silverback is everything
MOSS
A moment in Wistman's wood, Dartmoor
Almost monotonous in it's rich green. I find chaotic woodlands a challenge, but this was just stunning. The atmosphere is magical.
Fog may have made the image more mystical but I like the sharp contrast in the colours.
MinE
Scrambling an Abandoned Quarry, Eryri
The photography this day was hard work. Bright sunshine reflecting off monotonous shiny slate.
But a scramble past a lake and through a mining tunnel unveiled this scene. The warm colours and peace were entirely calming
OGWEN
ERYRI WINTER camp
A SNOW STORM WAS BLOWING IN, AND THE LIGHT WAS FADING. THIS MEANT THAT THE LIGHT WAS BOTH FLAT AND PURPLE SOMEHOW. THIS IMAGE FEELS CALM TO ME, WHILST BEING QUIETLY DRAMATIC. IT MAKES ME FEEL LIKE I'M LOOKING OUT OF THE WINDOW OF A MOUNTAIN HUT, SHELTERING FROM WHATS ABOUT TO HIT
Xenomorph
Glacier Ice Cave exploration
These blue ice caves were a surreal dream of shapes, colours, and light. There were so many photographs I made there, but This image captures something foreboding, dark and almost futuristic in it's metallic sheen and alien textural quality. There's no particular subject or idea of scale but the feeling of sci-fi is what does it for me
Set piece
Back alleys within a quarter mile, Bristol
As I approached this scene, it suddenly clicked and felt like a diorama. I can't explain it fully but something about the placement of the cans with "Us" above them, and the shadows with the patina on everything in shot just felt right.
I have a feeling this image may click only FOR me
